Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Posted On: Tuesday, 08 May 2018

The celebration of mothers can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. The holiday was started in the United States by Anna Jarvis in 1908. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a measure officially establishing the holiday, according to history.com. Mother’s Day is held annually on the second Sunday of May in the United States. This year, it falls on May 13.

The day is for celebrating motherhood and appreciating mothers and mother figures. Observation of the day typically involves giving mothers flowers, cards, and other presents, as well as a day off from cooking and chores.

Although not a federal holiday, Mother’s Day has been increasingly important for businesses in recent years, particularly for restaurants and businesses manufacturing and selling cards and gift items.
